Swine Flu
This article is from USA today on 6/10/09, the article is titled "H1N1 is very close to pandemic status." It states that the World Health Organization was preparing to declare the first flu pandemic in 40 years. Swine flu has infected more than 26,500 people on 73 countries and has killed 140 of them. All but 34 of the death have occurred in Mexico where the epidemic began around April. In the USA doctors have reported 13,217 infections and 27 deaths. The virus affects healthy young people which is a common trait in pandemic flu viruses. However most patients do not become severely ill and can be treated at home. The article also states that scientists need to tailor their plans to meet the existing situation, they are worried that the situation is still in flux and involves a new virus that may become more dangerous over time.

wow! I can't believe that many people have been infected by the swine flu. It seems like every time there is a scary disease going around only people from other countries get it, but so many people i know have gotten teh swine flu. i heard shots were coming out but i have not seen any information about it.
